Xenosaga KOS-MOS
Otaku Collection February 26th, 2008My first figure photo shooting after quite some time, due to my hectic traveling schedules. The subject for today is my Alter’s Kosmos figure which I bought in KL last two weeks. I had always wanted a Kosmos figure and now I have got two (The other one being the Kosmos v4). Kosmos is a very very popular character from the anime and game Xenosaga. I say very popular as her figure usually sold out quite fast in Japan. This figure was released way back in January 2006.
KOS-MOS stands slightly bending to her back side, carrying a gun in her right hand. Her hair is very dynamic, making it feels like the wind is blowing around her. The detail of her hair is good, with hair strands clearly seen.
The detail on KOS-MOS is good. All big and small details are well paid attention to. From the promo photos, I thought her hair will come in blue. But instead, it’s purple.
Here comes the close-up view of KOS-MOS using my macro lense. There are some irregularities here and there. But nothing major. There won’t be perfect figures for mass-manufactured figures. You can even see the word “KOS MOS” clearly on her forehead.
KOS-MOS comes with a square plain base. There are three pegs. One on her left foot and two on her right foot. Surprisingly, she can stand without the base. For her pose, I thought it would be otherwise.
Some random shot of KOS-MOS and of course, how can a figure go by without an accidental revealing of pantsu?? ^^
Highlight of this figure: Translucent hair!
Overall, as expected, this is a good figure from Alter. Had no complain of her so far. And she will be in my display cabinet for quite a long time.

Gratz on getting this figure! She’s really nice to have and is a welcome addition to any collection, more so if you’re a KOS-MOS fan. Grabbed this figure myself sometime in the later half of 2006 and like you, I discovered that she can stand without the base.
In the process of the discovery though, I dropped her from about 1 metre and her left foot popped out just at the stockings area -_- Didn’t really glue her back, just put them back together and placed it on her base and never touched her since so she wouldn’t fall apart ^^;

Nice figure, I did think of getting this one when I first saw it on eBay but decided v4 was enough for me as I really do not like having more than one of each figure unless “necessary”.
Got a question regarding your photoshoot - how did you make it so the lighting was rather constant and bright? I need suggestions so I can do a better photoshoot for my figures as I do a Figure of the Month article roughly monthly. Thanks.

One of my fave KOSMOS figures and one of only a handful of PVC figures in my collection! Good choice!!
I have issues with the Alter KOSMOS V4, specifically with a bulge on her hip but this V1 was sublime. I got it in May 06 I believe. Had to go through Yahoo Japan auctions to get it…
Though it’s strange that your hair does look more purple than my own, which is clearly blue…

@Panther: I am using a light tent and my camera (Kodak Z712 IS) allows me to manually adjust shutter speed, aperture and exposure.. shots taken using two second timer with a tripod. tripod is important. it provides a steady shot.
@gundamjehutykai: ohh.. there’s a bulge on the hip for kosmos v4? haha.. i haven’t opened mine yet to tell the truth..
yours the hair is blue? ya.. I thought is blue too. but mine is rather purple. :puzzled:

nice kosmos photo
I think you need to add more lights, close up shots looked fine, but the non close up shots still have grayish background
